If Clarins Were A Woman
The international cosmetics brand, Clarins, has a humble beginning. Founded by a man with a vision to provide his patients (yes, he was first a doctor) spa treatments and beauty products that added as much to a woman's sense of well-being as they did to her outward appearance, it grew into one of the most recognized names in luxury cosmetics today.
To celebrate the brand's 60th anniversary, Dr. Olivier Courtin-Clarins put together this book of super strategic tips, compiled from both his expertise in women's health and beauty and also from a worldwide base of their devoted beauty bloggers who submitted questions to him deserving of worthy answers. The result is, Doctor, I Want To Be The Fairest Of Them All, a delightful book only just translated from the French into English in time for the new year.
Docteur, Je Veux Etre La Plus Belle
That is the title in French and each chapter offers targeted and practical advice. The foreword, offered by Dr. Courtin-Clarins, states that, "Your face tells it all. What a pleasure it is to see life's contentment harmoniously written there...Over time our faces reflect who we are. They are an expression of ourselves and reveal our personalities."
Providing Beauty Advice Has Always Been Part of The Clarins DNA
Chapters in this little red book of beauty tips include: Killer Legs, A Star Even On The Road, A Flat Stomach A Small Waist And A Great Bottom, A Regal Bearing and Forever Youthful...
There are illustrated pages throughout the book and one of them even teaches you a quick morning massage to really wake you up with a sidebar giving you a recipe for a healthy breakfast. Below, on the same page is a Night Massage to help you sleep well. There is advice to, "from time to time or once a year" do a slimming or firming treatment at the spa.
In short, the book is full of priceless bits of beauty advice and much of it that you can self-administer. And it's all about whole-body beauty, something that has always been at the root of the Clarins philosophy.
This interview below is excerpted from a special interview given by Prisca Courtin-Clarins, the granddaughter of the founder of the cosmetics line, for the ultra-luxurious Spa My Blend by Clarins that you can find at the Royal Monceau in Paris.

'GMO OMG' - Documentary Film
"GMO OMG"
A Documentary by Jeremy Seifert
Submarine Deluxe Will Release Theatrically on September 13th, 2013
** OFFICIAL SELECTION: 2013 BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL **
GMO OMG made its world premiere at the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival. Screen Daily called the film "powerfully provocative" and "a subject that needs to be focused on."
Today in the United States, by the simple acts of feeding ourselves, we are unwittingly participating in the largest experiment ever conducted on human beings. Each of us unknowingly consumes genetically engineered food on a daily basis. The risks and effects to our health and the environment are largely unknown. Yet more and more studies are being conducted around the world, which only provide even more reason for concern. We are the oblivious guinea pigs for wide-scale experimentation of modern biotechnology.
GMO OMG follows one family's struggle to live and eat without participating in an unhealthy, unjust, and destructive food system. Has the global food system been irrevocably hijacked or is there still time to heal the planet, feed the world, and save ourselves?
GMO OMG also takes a critical look at the corporations who control what we eat. Last year, Monsanto and other food industry leaders spent $45 million to defeat a ballot in California that would require GMO labeling. And more recently, in an effort to combat labeling on food packaging, a conglomerate of biotech companies put up an informational website to disseminate their point of view on GMOs and try to make people feel safe about what they are eating.

Smiling is Good for You - And, Naturally, Makes Everyone More Beautiful!
New research has found a strong connection between smiling and general health.
According to Laurel House, the Quickie Chick, smiling boosts health, stress levels and self-improvement and is a fun way to live a happy and healthier life. When You Smile, the World Smiles Back House shares her insight about the benefits of smiling: 1. Smiling Lifts Your Spirits
Even if you’re not feeling it...smile. The simple act of smiling, especially when you smile at someone else and they reflect that smile back at you, can trick your body and mind into thinking that you are actually happy.
2. Smiling is a Stress Reliever
When you smile you are physically releasing your jaw muscles, which tend to be tightened in times of stress. The jaw muscles attach to the neck muscles and, when tightened, can lead to headaches. You also look less stressed since you minimize those frown lines on your forehead. “I’ll take smile lines any day,” says House. 3. Smiling Boosts the Immune System
When you smile, your body naturally relaxes. When you are relaxed, your immune system is able to function optimally and can help fight off colds and flu. 4. Smiling Lowers Blood Pressure
When you relax your mind and your face by smiling, you actually lower your blood pressure. House recommends that you sit and enjoy the view, pet your pup, or do something that you enjoy…and smile for 5 minutes and you will notice a difference. 5. Smiling is a Natural Pain Killer
It’s been shown that smiling helps the body to naturally release endorphins and serotonin which work together to help us feel better and minimize the sensation of pain.
6. Smiling Makes You Look Younger
Smiling helps soften the lines and wrinkles on the forehead while adding youth to your eyes. Forget about getting a facelift and smile instead if you want to immediately shed years off your face. 7. Smiling Makes You Appear Confident & Successful
People who look confident and approachable are more likely to be promoted in business. So put on a smile at work – even (or especially) in a stressful meeting – and see how differently others respond to you. House suggests you share the love. “You really won’t be able to help yourself. Smiling is contagious and the world always looks brighter from behind a smile,” she adds.

L'Essence Des Notes Perfume - Paris
Some of the freshest scents coming from Paris, France these days are from an artisan "parfumeur" dedicated not just to the clean purity of scents, but also to the clean purity of a perfume's composition. The woman behind the brand is Huong Mangin, a French woman whose family originated from Vietnam. Her perfumes are created in Grasse, the historic "perfume capital" of France, and, arguably, the world.
During the recent Rives de la Beaute' held in Paris this Autumn, much discussion surrounded the topic of "Scent as Art." To elaborate, the discussion's central point is about creating museums of scent, whereby a perfume can be held up, enshrined and admired as the piece of art, and historical reference point, that it is.

BIG NEWS J&J Victory and Beauty Industry Challenge
| August 16, 2012 | www.safecosmetics.org | ||
| Dear Green Beauty Consumer, Have you heard the news? Together we did it! We convinced one of the largest cosmetics companies in the world, Johnson & Johnson, makers of Aveeno, Neutrogena, ROC, Clean & Clear, Purpose and Johnson’s Baby Shampoo, to agree to phase out chemicals that can cause cancer and harm our health from its baby AND adult products in 57 countries around the world! Following its commitment last November to phase out 1,4 dioxane and formaldehyde from its baby products, yesterday J&J outlined its commitment to phase out carcinogens including formaldehyde and 1,4 dioxane, and other toxic chemicals linked to birth defects, diabetes, hormone disruption and breast cancer from its adult products, too. While J&J still has some work to do, and we’ll keep working with it to make these changes, this is a big step in the right direction. |
